7 in 07?

I just made a new resolution for 2007. That’s right, I’m stickin’ it to the folks that believe resolutions are for New Year’s Eve only. A switch just went off in my huge noggin while I was working away in this beige cubicle.

What is this new epiphany you may be asking yourself? What has caused this sudden outburst of enthusiasm laced with dread?

It’s quite simple really, I’m going to alter 31 years of habit and try to force myself to switch from a night owl to one of those annoying “morning people.” Specifically, my new resolution for 2007 is to wake up at 7:00 am everyday.

I’ve always been a night owl, but I want to start getting to work earlier so I can make it home earlier and spend more time with Gary. I read an article (but for the life of me I can’t find it again or I would link it) the other day on how you can do this. Essentially you force yourself to wake up every day at a certain time regardless of what time you went to bed. The catch is that you go to bed when you’re tired. That could be 1:00 am or 10:00pm, it can change every day. I assume that what happens is your body just becomes accustomed to waking up at the same time every day, thus creating a “morning person.”

Another bit of advice is not to argue with yourself in the mornings. This is one of my biggest problems. I’m definitely a “5 more minutes” gal and the snooze button is my best friend. Instead I’m suppose to get up right away and not even give myself time to go back to sleep.

While I’ll miss being a night owl, I think that I would benefit from getting up earlier. I could start working out in the mornings, actually get things done on the weekends. Really the possibilities are endless. Wish me luck, because I start this little experiment tomorrow.

Good luck! I hope it works for you!

I remain a night owl despite all efforts to timeshift, so I’ll be curious to hear how it goes.
