Tagging and an organizational freak out

I need to organize my online life. When I say need I truly mean need because I’m going batty. In an age where everything must be tagged from bookmarks, blog posts, email, pictures…oh my god please hurry up and pad my desk because in about five seconds I’m going to start smashing my head against it with a blind range.

You see I’m normally a pretty organized person and tagging seemed like it would be a great thing for someone like me. Until I realized that it creates tags for every work you add…and that just makes me mental. Then I lost track of tags I was already using and that just increased the frustration factor for me. I started tagging, then stopped, then tagged things in a half assed manner. Now when I look back at my posts, my del.icio.us tags and my gmail account and I want to scream and stamp my feet and smash my monitors in for the lack of organization I see there!

Ok maybe I’m exaggerating. But seriously, how do you guys tag your things? How do you group your email, posts, pictures etc?

I need to spend a full day and clean up my gmail account, my del.iciou.us account, my non existent flickr account as well as all of my posts. That may actually take a weekend now that I think about it and I’ll likely get sidetracked when I start working on my blog and will want to just create a new layout.

I need to create a nice IA chart for myself and stick to it, keep things consistent across the board. That is the only thing that will make me happy.

I used to write everything down on my hand… now I’ve evolved to a whiteboard beside my desk.

    That’s cute.

I’m pretty sure that I should be available by then. I’ll put it in my calendar and hope that Gary hasn’t already made plans :)
