WordPress modifications

I had the day off work today, thanks to Canada Day, and I have used the time to make some modifications to WordPress. Most of them are not really visible, but they took me a while to play with them and make sure that they worked. Below are some of the changes I’ve made to the site:

I installed WordPress 2.0.3. The release came out on June 1, 2006 but I just never got around to updating my installation. After reading what had been updated and realizing that it was mostly a security fix, I highly recommend to my fellow WordPress friends that they also update their installations. I was lucky because all I had to do was click an “update” link on Dreamhost’s admin panel and it did everything for me. Yes I’m spoiled.

New Plugins

  • The Author Highlight plugin. I’m not too happy with the way comments still look on the site and I’ll probably change the styling a bit more, but right now when I make a comment a little Cherry appears beside my name. The same cherry that appears as my favicon. I played with a few comment icons plugins but didn’t really like any of them, and since I have a total of seven comments in this journal I didn’t think it was a huge deal.
  • The Do Follow plugin. I figure if someone is actually commenting in my journal, I sure as hell am going to give them credit for doing it. I moderate all of my comments and the Akismet plugin does wonders for catching spam. So if you try to link to a site I do not like or I find offensive/questionable I am going to remove the link. This is my journal, it is not a democracy. What I say goes, if you don’t like it don’t comment.
  • The Short Stat plugin. I’m a whore for stats so I figured what the hell. The easier it is for me to glance at them the happier I am.
  • The Contact Form. I was tired of the spam email, tired of the weirdos adding me to AIM, MSN, Yahoo and ICQ. So if you want to contact me, you need to fill out the form.

Others

  • I also installed Lightbox JS v2.0. To see what it does, just click on the thumbnail below. How cool is that?!

Actually I upload the picture to my gallery section which creates the thumbnail and then I copy and paste the URLs of the thumbnail image and the original image using the Lightbox script. It is pretty cool, and I’m pretty happy with it :)

    Thanks!
