Partied until 4:30 and up at 10:00…what the hell?

Yesterday was a good day if I ignore the fact that I was sick (and still am actually). I went to Hamilton to see my Dad for an early Father’s Day celebration. I set up his DSL, his voicemail and took him shopping for some new duds as a gift. Then we hit up La Luna (best restaurant in Hamilton in my opinion) for some of their kick ass hummus, cauliflower in tomato sauce, tabbouleh salad and falafel.

I also picked up a few little things for myself at this cool store in downtown Hamilton, right by Hess Village. Now I can’t remember the name of the store and I’m a bit confused because the bags have “Metro” stickers on them the visa receipt says Alpaca Imports (which I don’t think is the name) and the cash register receipt doesn’t have anything at all. Anyway they have cool shit. I purchased some skull and crossbones coasters for Brett as a graduation gift (we already have a set that he coveted). Last time we were in Hamilton, Gary bought a set of Tuk shoes there and this time I succumbed to a pair of awesome shoes myself. I figured if I was still thinking about them a month later, they had to be mine. Now I just need to find a place in Toronto that sells Tuk shoes because I think I have an addiction and they are wide enough to fit my massive feet. Everyone, meet my new shoes:

Aren’t they pretty? I also picked up a purse for myself that is big enough to put my files in when I go onsite to a clients, carry my lunch, umbrella and book. These are all necessities when I go to work in the morning. Of course the purse is black, red and white ;)

I left my Dad and caught the 5:30 bus home with my new goodies and arrived at home for around 7:30. We did the domestic stuff and I took an hour nap when really I could have slept until the next day. But I needed to get up and get ready because we were going to the Midnight Mass, a party Rue Morgue was hosting for the tattoo convention that was going on this weekend in Toronto. It was a lot of fun. We got there around 11:00 walked around the Museum of Contemporary Art and saw some disturbing pieces. They were giving out free shots of Jägermeister which is always a double edged gift but I only ended up getting one before they closed up for the night.

I would say the two highlights of my night was the fact that I got the chance to get to know Tom (Tomb Dragomir at Rue Morgue Radio) a little bit better. I simply adore him and his lovely girlfriend Emma to bits. They are honest and good people, the kind that make me smile to be around them. We made plans to get together and I really hope that we do. I don’t want those plans to become another empty promise made during a night of drinking.

That is one of the things I don’t really like about being a “grown up” is trying to find time for everyone. People that I need/want to hang out with that I’ve neglected are starting to pile up, and with the fact that we can only really do things on weekends means that we’re pretty much booked until September. Then the cycle starts all over again. It’s exhausting and frustrating at times because I really do want to see everyone and then we have to balance time with our families and alone time with ourselves. It’s a juggling act. One that I have not quite managed to conquer yet.

I look back at my time in Colorado when I had no friends. Sure there was Steve’s friend Tom, but other then him we had no one in the city that we would go out with. When I think of that, and how isolated and alone I felt, I feel very lucky to be surrounded by so many genuine people. People that I want to spend time with and that I truly admire. Knowing that, I shouldn’t be complaining about not having time to fit all my friends in because I’m blessed and just need to make the time. Everyone will just have to be patient with me, though, while I try to keep all my balls in the air at the same time.
