The pain..the pain!

First a bit of background story: I had some cavities filled about six months ago and since then I’ve had sensitivity around the left side of my mouth. Couldn’t have hot or cold and had pain when I tried to chew anything on that side. It came and went so after about 5 months I finally made an appointment to go back to the dentist. Of course I had almost no pain that day so he didn’t take x-rays and just said I was fine.

Then the excruciating pain started on Wednesday. It almost knocked me out at work it hurt so much.

Shooting pain through the left side of my face, focused around my jaw. Sometimes when it was really bad it would work its way up to my eye area and add on top of that a throbbing headache. It was horrible. Last night was even worse, causing me to lay on the couch for six hours with an ice pack against my face. Luckily I had my six month visit scheduled for today so I asked if I could also see a dentist while I was there.

This morning my regular dentist was off so I saw a different one and he took some x-rays of the problem area. Turns out my regular dentist damaged the nerve while doing a filling and now I have to go back on Monday for a root canal. Let me say that again…root canal. And it’s a major root canal on all four nerves. Damn it I’m not even 30 yet!

Now I’m on antibiotics and tylenol 3 to help with the pain. It helps a bit but really it just masks the throbbing side of my left face. I also can’t eat anything of substance and ice cream and soup are too hot or too cold. So I haven’t really eaten in three days.

This weekend is going to suck.
