Playing with layering
About four or five months ago I started following some fashion blogs, and have been participating in the fatshonista livejournal community. I think I always had a pretty good sense of style but watching how other fashionable women pair pieces with their wardrobe have introduced me to all different wardrobe possibilities. I started posting a few “outfits of the day” over in the fatshonista community and thought that this would be the perfect opportunity to resurrect the use of this domain and introduce a wardrobe diary section.
So, here it is my first Wardrobe Diary entry.
I bought this dress when I went on a shopping trip with my mom, and my then future mother-in-law. We went to the United States for the day and decided to stop into Target. I never really had a chance to wear the dress much last summer because I was getting tattooed and the arm elastics hit at the wrong spot. So, I was pretty convinced it was going to stay in the trunk until summer.
Then I realized that I could simply layer it to make it warm enough for winter. I know that this may sound like an obvious solution to most but for some reason I never thought of putting a long sleeve t-shirt and layering a heavier skirt under the dress until I started reading Fashion for Nerds. This woman seriously inspires me to look at my wardrobe in a whole different light. I have a huge fashion crush on this stylish lady.
I started looking through my wardrobe, and found an old pair of purple and teal argyle tights and realized that it matched the teal dress I had written off for the season. I also pulled out a scarf that was a gift from a friend about 8 years ago and never really wore. I matched that up with a long sleeve t-shirt and a black broomstick skirt that was pulled up and topped it all off with a belt.
I have to say I was really happy with the way the outfit turned out. It was a nice mixture of some of my favourite colours and it was really warm for a pretty cold day.
